En route to Torres del Paine

We woke up and had breakfast at our hotel. The crumb cake had fruit inside and was super yummy.

We waited for Ecocamp to come pick us up and the ride to Puerto Natales took less than 4 hours. We waited at Ecocamp offices for others to arrive.

We have learned that the fire was started by an Israeli hiker who tried to start a fire by lighting some toilet paper. The fire clearly got out of hand. In 2005, a gas stove had fallen over while being used by a Czech hiker. The Czech republic felt so bad, they helped in rebuilding the park.

Many Chileans are very angry, not only at the hiker, but that more preventive and disaster services were not in place.

We met other Ecocamp visitors and had lunch. 2 women from Los Angeles - Sherry and Jeanne and a son and his mother from Brazil - Alexis and Luciani. Lunch was delicious with wine, ice tea, salad or soup, chicken with rice or fettuccine, and yogurt pie with passion fruit sauce.

After lunch, we explored the town and ran a few errands. And then off we go! On our way to Torres del Paine, we are stopping at the Milodon caves.

Happy early birthday to Penny Burk-ay!
