Capri

After breakfast in our Naples hotel, we packed up and dragged our luggage through the streets to the port - clickety clack! Naples is definitely a busy city and very gritty. My guidebook says there's a lot to see, but as people are usually coming from Rome and Florence, the city is overshadowed.

When we got to the port, it was crowded for people going to Ischia, Procida, and Capri islands. Also today is Italy's Labor Day, so many folks were going away for the weekend. We bought our ferry tickets and took the 12:40 pm ferry to Capri! The boat ride took about 40 minutes and the ferry overflowed with luggage, many from Louis Vuitton and Burberry. Here's a photo of the port sign and a view from the port:

When we arrived in Capri, our hotel had services to bring our luggage for 12€ each, but we declined. We bought our funicular tickets and waited in a long queue to take the 3 minute ride up the steep mountain. Here's our queue and some views from our funicular:

We arrived at La Piazzetta (the small plaza) and there were throngs of day tourists. Again I can't imagine what it's like during the summer! We walked about 10 minutes, passing by the high-end shopping of Capri - take a left at Ferragamo, right at Cavalli, and another left at Ferretti!

We had arrived at our hotel, Hotel La Scalinatella. The hotel is apparently 5 stars and means "little stairs"; there are stairs, but apparently it's the name of a song as well. The service was great, but our garden room with a terrace is even better. It's very white, clean, double sinks, handmade tiles, and massive tub. Here are a few photos of our room details and then a view of one of two pools:

After laying in our terrace, we decided to get lunch by the pool. I had a shrimp and tomato pasta and Amanda had fish. Here's a photo of our fresh poolside lunch:

I decided to lay by the pool that has nice views. Our lounge chairs are fun, because they provide a mini overhang to cover your face or eliminate the glare so you can read. I fell asleep enjoying the sun and being able to relax. I think my body is exhausted from all the sight-seeing and the clickety clack of our luggage dragging. After the poolside terrace closed, I napped some more in our hotel room. Around 9 pm, we were ready for dinner.

We went to La Camerelle which was very cute - not too crowded, but not empty. Indeed, the restaurant could have been implanted in the Hamptons as it was filled with swanky people who seemed to be enjoying the long weekend. I had fried zucchini flowers stuffed with cheese and their homemade ravioli caprese and Amanda had carbonara pasta and veal chops. Then we shared a lemon flan. Lemons are famous here in the region and our dessert was fresh and super tasty. Here's a collage of our meal:

To walk off our delicious meal, we meandered through the streets and to the Piazetta. It was nice being able to walk through without all the tourists! Here's a photo of the street and La Piazzetta at night:

The weekend has started off right - poolside naps! With no agenda this weekend in Capri, I'm excited to enjoy the Capri Sun!
