Denmark

Something is rotten in the state of Denmark…. As declared in Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Considering the context, pretty fitting as I left the US on Election Day which in looking at the results, seems like continued status quo.

I actually landed early in Amsterdam while hoping my luggage transferred safely - apparently the luggage handling situation at European airports has been brutal and for that reason, had purchased an AirTag so I can track if need be. Probably not helpful if it gets lost, but at least a higher chance of tracking my suitcase down.

Mikey and William were transferring through Frankfurt and we arrived about 45 minutes apart from each other in Copenhagen. We happily found each after learning that both terminal 2 and 3 arrivals exited from the same area.

We activated the Copenhagen Card on our phones which gives us free public transport and we navigated the metro to get to Nørreport which is a busy area. Our hotel, a part of Accor, was called 25hours Indre By which means “inner city”. Indeed it is very centrally located.

Rachel finished her class while we showered and got settled while listening to the nearby church bells. She met us at the hotel and we decided to redeem our welcome drinks at the bar downstairs. We decided not to eat at the hotel for dinner, so we meandered around the neighborhood and passed by protests and smoky bistros. We finally settled on Accanto, which was on the square and provided solid Italian fare.

Afterwards we headed back to the hotel and enjoyed beers and the Hawaiian snacks that I brought and had saved for the group from my last trip.

We had déjà vús and chatted like old friends (well because we are old too, a 1,000 to be exact), and being in Denmark definitely does not feel rotten as you can see from the below photo requested by Mikey for posting:

And as our hotel has advised us several times, “buckle up buttercup”!
